The bug eaters

Last time I named a hen she died the next day. So these ladies are nameless, but valued just the same. Names are kinda stupid anyway.

See, this hen was free from the Iowan supplier, advertised as a "free exotic chick." We've figured that she's a silver-laced Polish. A little different, a bit smaller. The other hens knew she was odd - the pecked at her head when she was a chick and pulled out all of her crown feathers. She bled. But she kept on. We wondered how well she could see through the fringe. Hmm. I guess I'm writing in the past tense. She was named. The kids love to name things. And she's been our only eagle take so far. Maybe not because she was named, maybe it was because the eagle sensed her low status on the pole - an easy kill. Thanks for the memories Froena.
